The Ministry of Environment conducted a number of traffic campaigns to inspect car exhaust on roads inside and outside cities, in separate locations in the governorates of the Republic, in cooperation with the General Traffic Department and the General Department of Environment and Surface Police, with the aim of tightening control over emissions from car exhaust and controlling violations thereof to reduce polluting emissions For the air, as those campaigns resulted in the examination of about 16706 cars so far, as it was found that 12,700 cars conformed and 4006 violated the permissible limits in the Environment Law and its amendments, and legal measures were taken against the violators.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, confirmed in a statement that the inspection teams of the Ministry of Environment and deployed throughout the governorates of the system (Sharqia, Gharbia, Beheira, Dakahlia, Qalyubia), in cooperation with the Industrial Development Authority, have managed to inspect 5568 industrial establishments so far, which varied between Large, medium and small establishments show that the number of 697 was identical, the number 4,534 ceased to operate, and 337 establishments violated the limits permitted in the environmental law, and the necessary measures were taken against the violators.
The Minister of Environment indicated that the total amount of rice straw collected in the governorates of the system in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture and Local Development has reached approximately 518 thousand tons to date, and the daily traffic corridors that work around the clock have issued 535 minutes of burning agricultural waste. They were monitored with the latest technologies using satellites and early warning systems to track burning sites in the governorates, follow the direction of the winds according to data issued by the National Meteorological Authority, in addition to field follow-up of the monitoring axes of the Ministry of Environment.
The Ministry of Environment continues to play its awareness-raising role, as the media departments of the regional branches of the Environmental Affairs Agency concerned with the system implemented 11,278 awareness-raising activities for farmers to raise awareness of the dangers of burning agricultural waste and the benefits of using it as fertilizers and unconventional fodder.
The number of citizen complaints received by the General Administration of Citizen Service through various means of communication, such as WhatsApp, Facebook and the hotline, reached 212 reports, which varied between reports of burning agricultural waste, garbage and industrial facilities.
The Ministry of Environment monitors the situation around the clock through the Central Operations Room at the Ministry of Environment, in cooperation with the operation rooms of the Ministries of Agriculture and Local Development, to respond, deal immediately, and take the necessary measures against any emergency events.
